  • Lyonel George Ashton was known as Uncle George to his nieces and nephews, and George or (Boy) to family.
He was editor of the Whangarei Advocate for many years and had been involved in journalism and editorial while living in Adelaide Australia.
Uncle George was one of 4 children - he had 2 sisters; Katharine Dorys ( known as Dodge), Esme Clare, and a brother, Mervyn Roy Ashton who was my Grandfather.
He was a very kind and decent man who never had any children of his own and always looked after other family members.
I remember him with much love after many holidays spent in Whangarei at his home in Church Street Onerahi.
Thank you for your service and for being such a kind and decent man RIP
