    MR. K. T. HEMANA. WELL KNOWN SOCIAL WORKER. Noted for his indefatigable social work among the Maoris, Mr. K. T. Hemana died this morning at his home, 4 Harding Street, Auckland West, at the age of 59. Mr Hemana was a son of the late Chief Tatana Hemana of Oruawaharo and Aropaoa in the Kaipara district and was a member of the Ngatiwhatua tribe. He served in the Great War during 1914-18 and was invalided home twice, being at the time of his death a member of ihe Auckland Maori Returned Soldiers' Association. An apostle in the Ratana Church stationed in Auckland, Mr Hemana had acted as a mission worker and welfare officer among the Maori people of the city, where his work was well known and appreciated through wide circles. He was also chairman of the Tokerau (Northern Maori) district central Maori executive of the Labour party. Mr. Hemana is survived by his wife and a daughter by a former marriage as well as two young adopted children. His niece. Hinerupe Paraone, is the wife of Mr. P. K. Paikea. M.P. The body will lie in state at his home in Harding Street from this evening until to-morrow when it will be taken to the Oruawharo settlement near Port Albert, where the members of his tribe will gather to pay their respects.
