(PDF, 265.57 KB)
Record of the SS Australmead's arrival in Dunedin March 1917. Other records sourced from National Archives UK suggest that Edward James Cronin, then a sailor upon this ship, went AWOL from the SS Australmead in Dunedin 24 March 1917 and was considered a deserter. This was after Cronin had enrolled in the NZ Army two weeks earlier in Wellington. Edward James Cronin's military record held at Archives New Zealand suggest that he reported for duty at Trentham Military Camp three days later on 27 March 1917.
