  • In 1910 established a farm he called Eastwoodhill, he went on to plant trees, shrubs in a garden which was to become a "giant collection of Northern Hemisphere temperate climate zone trees in New Zealand". Eastwoodhill is now the national arboretum of New Zealand.

    At enlistment he listed his father as next of kin in Paihiatua and his mother of London, England.

    Transferred March 1916 to Artillery. Promoted to the rank of Bombardier September 1916. He was wounded again and left permanently blind in his right eye. AWMM
