  • Zona Haworth was the daughter of Arthur Haworth and Clarissa Haworth (nee Harris).

    Trained at Dunedin Massage School. Registered 1935

    Worked as a Masseuse at Hastings Memorial Hospital at enlistment.

    Gazetted as Sister on 19 March 1941

    Served on Hospital Ship, 'Maunganui' in Italy and England

    Bangor Rehabilitation Hospital, England

    Orthopedic and amputee cases, East Grinstead Hospital

    Brumpton Hospital; Brighton Hospital (genral rehabilitation) and Greys Hospital

    Margates Hospital to set up a rehabilitation and physio section

    Zona Haworth was presented with the Associated Royal Red Cross by King George VI at Buckingham Palace on 27 February 1945.

    Kai Tiaki - The New Zealand Nursing Journal v38n1p271 (15 November 1945) "After four years with the N.Z.A.N.S. as masseuse on the Hospital Ship 'Maunganui', Miss Z.M. Haworth is to be demobilised this month and for the next six months will carry out the duties of Assistant Inspector of Physiotherapy Departments, under the Department of Health. Miss Haworth has given outstanding service whilst with the N.Z.A.N.S., and during the time the Hospital Ship was berthed in England she took a special course in the Physical Rehabilitation Work. She was invested with the A.R.R.C. at Buckingham Palace last year. Prior to her enlistment Miss Haworth was on the staff of the Memorial Hospital, Hastings."

    She returned to New Zealand on the 'Oranje'.

    Inspector of physiotherapists for Health Department and physiotherapist at Olympic Pools Newmarket in partnership.

    She retired in 1965 and presented the Auckland War Memorial Museum with a life buoy from the 'H.S. Maunganui' in 1971. AWMM
