  • Butler was educated at Fancoulrige School, Suffolk, and had been four years in New Zealand when he joined the First New Zealand Contingent for South Africa.

    Was invalided from Kronstadt on account of eyesight failing.

    After his stint in Hospital Trooper Butler spent two months in Egypt.

    After the war Harry Francis Butler returned to New Zealand where he farmed near Marton in the Rangitikei District. AWMM
