  • Montgomerie was a member of the Onehunga Rifle Volunteers.

    'Captain W. N. Mcintosh, of the Onehunga Rifles, speaking of Montgomerie and Kirkbride (the two members of the corps who went with the First) when he forwarded their offer of service, said, "They are first-class shots and efficient Volunteers, and he regarded them as two of the crack members of their Corps."(St Clair Inglis, p.17)
