  • Son of John and Elizabeth Aitken, of Invercargill, New Zealand. Served with 1st New Zealand Contingent in the South African Campaign.

    Aiken was invalided back to New Zealand on Delphic 23 October 1900. At the front he was selected as 'galloper', taking dispatches for Generals Roberts and French. (St Clair Inglis, p. 24)

    Driver Aitken was killed in action at Delville Wood, France. AWMM
