  • Johnston was present at Kimberly Camp in February 1900. He left South Africa aboard the S.S. 'Orient'.

    He was Officer in Command of the New Zealand detachment at the Australian Commonwealth Federation Celebrations, 1901.

    Johnston joined the Regiment Staff 7 NZMR as Captain and Adjutant, sailing aboard S.S. 'Gulf of Taranto' in June 1901. (Stowers, p.147)

    Johnston returned to South Africa in 1906 and resided near Potgietersrust, Northern Transvaal. He was a Major in the South Africa Forces. (Stowers, p.147)
