  • Husband of Camilla Harrowell nee Steele (22/410)]. Father of Dudley Steele Harrowell (50760)] who was killed in WW2.

    Harrowell joined the Provisional Transvaal Constabulary in June 1900. He returned to New Zealand aboard the S.S 'Harleck Castle' but rejoined the 7 NZMR as Captain, 21 Company, departing from Wellington in June 1901 aboard the S.S. 'Gulf of Taranto'.

    Served as a Sergeant with 1 Company, First Contingent

    Served as a Captain with the 21 Company Seventh Contingent

    Assistant Military Secretary to the Commissioner (3 Auckland Regiment, Samoa Garrison), Samoa with the rank Major 1917

    Wounded in Gallipoli and struck off strength and fit for home service

    Served as a Major with the 3rd Auckland Regiment

    Served as a Sergeant in the 1 Waikato Mounted Rifles AWMM
