  • Morgan was one of only seven from the 1 NZMR in the Diamond Jubilee Contingent for Queen Victoria in 1897. (Stowers, p.150)

    He joined the Orange River Colony Provisional Mounted Police at Bloemfontein in May of 1900, under Major Lorimer for seven months. (Stowers, p.150)

    Morgan returned to New Zealand aboard the S.S. 'Orient' and spent some time as an instructor to the Wanganui District Mounted Corps. He later joined the "B" Squadron North Island Regiment 8 NZMR as Lieutenant, departing from Auckland on the S.S. 'Surrey' in February 1902. On his return to New Zealand he was appointed to the Defence Staff as Sergeant-Major; Mounted Drill Instructor at Palmerston North; in charge of the 3 Battalion. He was also a Mounted Instructor in the South Island for several years. (Stowers, p.150)

    Morgan farmed in Mount Somers District where he resided until his death in Christchurch.
