  • The family farm is now occupied by the Batchelar Research Centre in Palmerston North, which was named after the family.

    Arthur returned to New Zealand aboard the S.S. 'Harleck Castle in 1901. He received a commission as Lieutenant in the Manawatu Mounted Rifles in November 1901. (Stowers, p.155).

    During WW1 he was a Lieutenant in the Wellington Mounted Rifles, promoted to Lieutenant Colonel 17 March 1919

    Listed at Archives New Zealand as both Batchelor (SA67) and Batchelar (11/13). Family note the name is correctly spelt Batchelar.

    His father was named John Octavius Batchelar. AWMM
