  • Gane was present at the Kimberley Camp in February 1900 and was promoted to Lance-Corporal. He departed South Africa aboard the S.S. 'Orient'. (Stowers, p.163)

    In New Zealand Gane joined the 25 Company, 7 NZMR as Lieutenant, sailing abaord the S.S 'Taranto' in March 1901 from Wellington.

    After the war Gane purchased 2,000 acres in Rhodesia but died of Malaria in 1904.
