  • McCauley was present with baggage-guard from Middle Bosch in February 1900.

    At Koornspruit he made a brave dash for liberty under heavy fire and escaped the Boer's net. (Stowers, p.168)

    McCauley joined the Orange River Colony Provisional Mounted Police(No.68) in May 1900 at Bloemfontein. He later returned to the 1 NZMR.

    He departed South Africa aboard the S.S. 'Harleck Castle'.
