  • Wallace departed New Zealand with the 1 NZMR, in January 1900, suffering from a hernia. He was invalided from Cape town aboard the S.S. 'Wakanui' in August 1900. (Stowers, p.180)

    He opened a Blacksmith store in Wellington before moving to Piopio, near Te Kuiti, in 1906. AWMM
