    The following is a chronology of Rifleman Ellerm's war service compiled from his service record:

    Commenced duty with rank of Private attached to D Company, 2nd Battalion, 3rd New Zealand Rifle Brigade, on 29 May 1915.

    Embarked for Egypt on 9 October 1915.

    Disembarked at Suez on 18 November 1915.

    Embarked at Alexandria for France on 6 April 1916.

    Transferred with rank of Rifleman to Battalion Transport Section on 8 June 1916.

    Transferred back to D Company, 2nd Battalion, NZRB, on 30 June 1916.

    Transferred back to Battalion Transport Section on 9 October 1916.

    Took 12 days leave on 2 July 1917, and reported back for duty on 14th.

    Admitted to No. 4 NZ Field Ambulance on 21 November 1917 (scabies).

    Admitted to No. 50 Casualty Clearing Station on 22 November 1917.

    Rejoined unit on 30 November 1917.

    Admitted to No. 2 NZ Field Ambulance on 19 June 1918 (cause unknown).

    Discharged and rejoined unit on 26 June 1918.

    Detached to UK on 26 December 1918.

    Embarked at London aboard SS 'Hororata' on 1 February 1919.

    Arrived in New Zealand on 15 March 1919.

    Discharged on 12 April 1919.

    Period of Service:

    New Zealand: 161 days.

    Overseas: 3 years 158 days.
