The following transcribed newspaper item relating to Private Boyd was contained in an email communication between Margaret Marks, Ministry for Culture and Heritage, and Mrs Linda Smith, January/February 2004: "Received 3rd March 2 p.m. LONDON, 2nd March. The British Legion paraded, bearing the legion standard and the ANZAC banner, at the funeral of Private John Lewis Boyd, of the Auckland Light Infantry, who had been bedridden with a bullet wound in the spine since 1917. He was interred beside 19 compatriots."
