  • Wyndham Fitzherbert was the third son of William Alfred and Fanny Fitzherbert; grandson of Sir William Fitzherbert.

Two brothers, Harold Lancelot Fitzherbert and Captain Wyndham Waterhouse Fitzherbert , were killed in WW1.

Educated at Huntley School, Marton and then Wanganui College; later Marlborough College England

Farming in the Argentine at the time the war broke out he and his younger brother enlisted with the 12th Royal Sussex Regiment

"Holding the rank of Captain in the Royal Sussex Regiment, was at the time of his death attached to the R.F.C. Little is really known about him beyond the fact that some considerable time after he fell a report was received from the Germans to the effect that he was brought down behind their lines while returning from a bombing raid. Like many others he was reported 'missing' until official news was received of his death on July 7th, 1917. He left the School for England with his brother in 1907." (In Memoriam, 1914-1918 [Wanganui Collegiate School]) AWMM
