      Employed as a stock agenet with the National Mortgage and Agency Company at the time of enlistment

      Listed on the Nominal Roll as embarking with the 23 Canto

      After the war he transferred to Auckland 1957 to manage Alfred Bucklands Ltd, a National Mortgage subsidary; with whom he spent his whole working life.

      The 23 Battalion was primarily made up of men from the Canterbury/Otago region. (other regions represented in this battalion were Southland, Nelson, Marlborough and the West Coast). On 13 March 1940 23 Battalion was placed on active service AWMM
    • From Alfred Buckland Ltd he was transferred back to National Mortgage head office in Dunedin where he became 2iC of the company until his retirement in 1970. He retained his home in Remuera, Auckland while in Dunedin and returned to Auckland to live when he retired. Public - Gerald - Child - 21 June 2015 - Family knowledge

  • I have visited Crete twice where my father fought the Germans. He certainly was lucky to survive. Now I have more details of where he was etc on the island I will visit again. He did not say much about his experiences in the war but I sensed he suffered with the memories. He was a brave good man. He was drawn back to Greece over the years after his retirement. May he rest in peace.
