      Allan Smith was Commanding Officer of 197 (RAF) Squadron which was based in Antwerp when he was shot down by flak during a low level bombing attack on a bridge in Holland. He crash landed and was taken prisoner of war. AWMM

    Allan Smith flew over 400 operational missions and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross in 1944 and in 1945 the Bar to the D.F.C.

    He was shot down and captured on 31 December 1944. It was his 418th mission. AWMM
