      Appointed to rank of Lance Corporal on 8 October 1918.

      Promoted to rank of Sergeant on 4 January 1919.

      Embarked from Plymouth, England, on 28 July 1919 aboard SS Hororata for New Zealand, arriving on 20 September 1919.

      The Auckland Museum Library Manuscripts (MS 97/17) and Pictorial (PH97/5) Collections contain the discharge and service certificates of Sergeant Aitken, a summary of his wartime service and 5 photographs. AWMM
    • Gerald Vincent Aitken died on or about 21st November 1966 in Ottawa, Canada and is buried there in Pinecrest Cemetery. Public - Linda Ngaire - Child - 2 October 2016 - I have his death certificate but it is not to hand at this moment, stored with other family papers.
