  • Working as a clerk and studying at the Victoria University at the time of enlistment.

    Ronald Cumber studied at London University on a postwar bursary and was awarded a PhD in Entomology. He married in London after the war and returned to New Zealand in 1948.

    Cumber worked at the Cawthron Institute for a time then at Foxton where he worked with diseases of the flax plant. He was then seconded to Apia, Western Samoa, where he worked with the coconut beetle.

    He worked at DSIR Grasslands, Palmerston North, then at DSIR Mt Albert where he designed new laboratories.
