    • Henry Daikee was one of 28 New Zealand servicemen who were court-martialled and sentenced to death during the First World War. His sentence was later squashed. Pugsley, ‘On the Fringe of Hell’, pp.350-51. AWMM
    • Henry was court marshalled but he was not shot. Henry returned to NZ and spent the rest of his life in an institution. He died in 1957. Knowing what we do now about the conditions he and many others like him endured. I think history now needs to be a little kinder to him.
My mother was Henrys neice and I have a photocopy of a letter from him dated 12/8/1916 from Sling Camp, written to his sister my grandmother. Public - June Ada - Other Relative - 10 April 2015 - Marlborough Express - Wednesday focus (date unkown) page 12
