  • My Dad bought me beautiful blue leather Sandals when he came back from the war and gave me a black special Fountain pen for my sixth birthday..He left when I was newborn so I did not know what a dad was It was magic getting blue shoes and a pen that was so grown up with a gold nib. He would also take me out to lunch sometimes at Kirkcaldies on his work days while he was writing the NEW ZEALAND WAR HISTORIES. When I wads at Boarding School he would bring me bags of apples as he was driving through masterton to go to do training his recruits at linton Camp or Waiouru.. People who always had a DADDY at home with them must develop a very different relationship with that special person. because he is part of their lives from the beginning and always. My son said to me at my Dad.s funeral I always wanted a Grandpa and it would have been nice to have a granddad like monty....oooh...HE WAS MY
