  • Eastwood was a British citizen who enlisted with the New Zealand Expeditionary Force (NZEF) at the outbreak of World War 1. This was most likely because from 1912 he had been stationed in NZ as the Aide-de-camp for the NZ Governor-General. He served with NZEF from 1914-1918. He attained the rank of Major while with the NZ Forces.

    Eastwood rejoined the British Army on 17 October 1918.

    Served in North Russia, 1919.

    Served Aldershot, Cork and Staff College.

    Promoted to Lieutenant Colonel, 1927.

    Promoted to Colonel and appointed Commandant of Rifle Brigade Depot, 1931.

    Commanding Officer (CO) of 2 Battalion, King's Royal Rifle Corps (KRRC), 1934.

    General Staff Officer grade 1 (GSO1) 2 Division, 1936.

    Commandant of Royal Military College (RMC) Sandhurst, 1938.

    Promoted to Major General and appointed Division Commander, 1940.

    Vice Chief, General Staff, 1940.

    Director General of the British Home Guard, 1940-41.

    Promoted to Lieutenant General and appointed General Officer Commanding (GOC) of Northern Command (UK), 1941.

    Served with British Expeditionary Force (BEF), France, during World War 2.

    Promoted to General and served as Governor and Commander in Chief, Gibraltar, 1944.

    Retired 1947.

    Registered Justice of the Peace (JP).
