      The Auckland Museum Library manuscripts collection may contain a photograph (MS 1061, folder 2, envelope 5) of Sergeant Jolly in World War I uniform. AWMM
    • Family bible records Sydney's date of birth as 2 June 1878 and date of death 28 May 1952, and this is confirmed in the Register of Births Deaths and Marriages.   • Sydney and Ernest Jolly were my Great Uncles, so unfortunately I never knew them. On this Anzac Day I wish to acknowledge their contribution to the armed forces of New Zealand.

  • Sydney was the brother of Ernest Edward who also served in the First World War. Both brothers left New Zealand to serve their country their youngest brother my grandfather Morton Henry was a farmer and had to stay on the land. Neither Sydney or Ernest ever married though a sister Edna who outlived everyone in this family cared for Sydney in his reclining years at Keri Keri.
