NB. The NZEF Nominal Rolls give Hurst's rank on enlistment as "Trooper". However, given the context of his previous and subsequent service, it seems unlikely that the roll is correct in this case.
Studholme gives his first rank as Captain, appointed 5 August 1914.

Robin Holmes Herbert Hurst, is my father.
He had much pride in Herberts' achievements fondly referring to him as
" the Colonel " and, in later life, enjoyed writing ANZAC day speeches in his memory.
Robin passed away 30th June 2019
Herbert Hurst was my Grandfather. I never met him. I loved his wife, Vonnie, my Nana.
