DSO citation: "At Minqar Qaim on 27 June 1942 Maj Lambourn was ordered to take his battery outside the Division defensive area for the purpose of harassing the flank of the enemy who were passing to the north. He very quickly deployed his battery and in a short time was bringing effective fire to bear on the enemy. As the action proceeded a number of German tanks engaged the battery and attempted an outflanking movement. Major Lambourn very skilfully leapfrogged a troop back to a rear position from which the forward troop was covered by fire and eventually withdrawn. By skilful handling Major Lambourn succeeded in extricating the whole Battery without loss and inflicted the loss of three tanks with three others damaged on the Germans. AWMM
