  • Lampen enlisted with the NZEF in the UK and was in charge of bringing other NZ units from the UK to Egypt in 1914

    On 1 March 1916, he was appointed Brigade Major (BM) of 2 NZ Infantry Brigade

    He was discharged from the NZEF on 31 March 1917 and returned to NZ to serve as Adjutant at Trentham Camp

    He later served as General Staff Officer (GSO) of the Otago Military District in 1919

    On 1 May 1921, he became Commander of the Otago District

    Transferred to Reserve of Officers early in 1924; moved over to 14 Battery, NZ Artillery on 23 May 1924; and returned to the reserves on 24 June 1926

    Lampen served as a Captain with the Somes Battalion, Home Guard, 1941-42 AWMM
