    • From copy of his diary written in the trenches of Gallipoli - his friend Neil McLeod from his regiment, was killed and the next day Murdoch and his friend Sandy Anderson went down to the beach and collected white stones to cover his grave.

    • He was the son of Alexander & Margaret FINLAYSON (nee McInnes), from Maungaturoto. They had four sons enlist with the NZEF – Murdoch (13/184), Malcolm Innes (13/2433), Roderick John (13/2436) and Neil Kenneth (13/2434).
