  • Additionally, his discharge certificate gives his declared age at enlistment as 32, but he would have been 35 in 1939 if he was born in 1904.

Text of death notice: "BAYLY, Boyde William (Mick), -- Regt No 7427 Pte 2nd NZEF Ex. POW. Suddenly, at Taranaki Base Hospital, New Plymouth, on Tuesday, December 17, 1974. Dearly loved husband of Norma Bayly, 2 Warangi Street, New Plymouth. No flowers please." (NZ Herald, 19 December 1974)

Conflicting information regarding some of Bayly's biographical details: Bayly's paybook incorrectly gives the year of his birth as 1906; his death notice in the NZ Herald incorrectly gives his serial number as 7427. His first name was alternately spelled Boyd, and Boyde. It is spelled "Boyd" on his official military documents and "Boyde" elsewhere, although in his paybook it is spelled with an 'e', but the 'e' has been crossed out. His Prisoner of War Diary, medals and other military articles given to National Army Museum, Waiouru, New Zealand AWMM
