DSO citation: "As commander of 5 New Zealand Field Park Company, Major Malt has carried out his duties at all times with distinction. His working during the operations from the Senio to the Piave has been of the highest order. The organising and assembling of the stores and bridging trains for the six assault bridges across the Senio, in some cases in the face of very serious enemy interference, was no small task, but under the personal supervision of Major Malt the considerable amount of bridging equipment was delivered to the respective sites without delay or hindrance .... Major Malt was at all times an example and an inspiration to all about him. He contributed in very considerable measure to the success of the many bridging tasks throughout the recent operations."
