Sergeant Jack Sharp was flying one of the squadron's Ventura aircraft (AJ200) on 3 May 1943 on a raid on Amsterdam. He was shot down and taken prisoner of war. Of 12 aircraft on this raid 11 were lost. Squadron Leader Leonard H. Trent (RAF), also POW, won his Victoria Cross during this operation.
