    Promoted to Lt Colonel and appointed Commanding Officer (CO) of NZ Mounted Field Ambulance, 1 March 1916

    Later Hand-Newton served as CO of New Zealand Stationary Hospital.

    Hand-Newton was the brother-in-law of Lord Rutherford of Nelson.

    Listed as NEWTON, Charles Treweek Hand by National Archives new Zealand. His middle name appears with various spellings published in Haigh and Polaschek as Treweeke; by McDonald as Treweeks and the WWI nominal rolls as Treweek. Birth and Death documents refer to him with the surname Newton, with the name Hand relegated to middle name status. AWMM
