  • Served with 29 Battalion and as Adjutant for the Reserve Battalion (later reorganised as 34 Battalion) with the New Zealand Forces in Fiji, 1940-41.

    Transferred to 2NZEF in North Africa and promoted to Captain.

    Promoted temporarily to Lieutenant Colonel and served as Commanding Officer (CO) of 25 Battalion, December 1943 - February 1944; June 1944 - April 1945.

    Norman returned to New Zealand after being wounded in April 1945.

    He was ordained as an Anglican minister and later served as the chaplain for the RNZNVR.

    He later became Anglican Bishop of Wellington.

    He retired in 1986.

    A misspelling appears in Norman's details in Haigh & Polaschek's DSO book, wherein RNZNVR is written as RNZVR.
