After giving an order to 'abandon vehicles and make a get-away', Gill attempted a breakthrough but the road was mined. He split his men into small groups, each party managing to raise a compass and a map ... The plan was for all RMT men to rendezvous eight hours later and about 24 miles south. Nobody turned up, and although one or two got as far as Derna, all but Gill's party were captured". Morris is named in a footnote. (Henderson, p160)Although Morris was willing to discuss his wartime experiences, he never joined the RSA and his family remembers him being something of a loner. His ashes were scattered in Cornwall Park, One Tree Hill, Auckland AWMM Read more Death About death Contribute › Death26 November 2004 AWMM Age 96 AWMM Three Kings, Auckland City AWMM Date of death Age at death Place of death Cause of deathDied of Disease AWMM Death notes CemeteryCremated at Waikumete Crematorium, Glen Eden, Auckland, New Zealand AWMM Cemetery name Grave reference Obituary Memorial name Memorial reference Memorials Memorial Contribute › Memorial name Roll of Honour Remember Leonard James Morris by laying a poppy.
