New Zealand Ski Champion in 1936. The McMillan Cup in skiing was named in his memory.
Served with 31 Squadron, Royal Air Force (RAF) on the Northwest frontier of India, 1938 - 1939.
Promoted to Flight Lieutenant and helped with the airlift retreat from Burma, 1942.
Squadron Leader with 582 Squadron, RAF, 1943.
Wing Commander and Commanding Officer (CO) of 227 Squadron, Pathfinder Force, RAF, 1945.
After the war ended, a group of ex-Pathfinder airmen founded the British South American Airways Corp (BSAAC). McMillan joined his fellows as a pilot with the airline.
He was on board BSAAC airliner "Star Tiger", along with fellow New Zealander Sir Arthur Coningham (see separate Cenotaph record), when it mysteriously disappeared in the Bermuda Triangle on 30 January 1948 en route to Bermuda from the Azores. AWMM
