Also for other gallant services rendered during the campaign on the West Coast" (Taranaki & Wanganui Districts).     • Married (1) Lavinia Newport (1826-1870). Lavinia was born Buckinghamshire UK and emigrated with her parents - Stephen and Leah Newport - aboard the Sir Charles Forbes to Nelson, NZ in 1842. Samuel and Lavinia would have 6 children. Lavinia died 1870 and is buried at Wanganui.

      Married (2) Alice Arnold (born UK 1855; died Wanganui 1913). Samuel and Alice would have 4 children.
