  • Fourth child of Hyam and Katherine Wendelborn of Nelson, New Zealand. Ronald's father had enlisted in the services during WWI but the war ended before he left the country.

    Ronald's brother, Clifford Laurence (16215), also served in WWII with 4 Armoured Brigade. See his separate Cenotaph record for more details.

    Ronald served as a driver and a cook with the Signal Corps before transferring to 4 Armoured Brigade on 25 March 1944.

    He returned to New Zealand on 23 January 1946. During the trip back, Ronald requested a demotion from Sergeant back to Corporal.

    Married Audrey Miriam Borlase in Brightwater, Nelson on 14 April 1947. They had two children. Ronald and Audrey separated in 1959. Ronald moved to Collingwood with his sister, who worked as his housekeeper until her death. AWMM
