  • Second child of Hyam and Katherine Wendelborn of Nelson, New Zealand. His father had enlisted during WWI but the war ended before he left the country.

Clifford's brother, Ronald Leslie (261111), also served with 4 Armoured Brigade during WWII. See his separate Cenotaph record for more details.

Clifford served as an infantryman, despatch rider, tankman and driver during WWII.

    He repeatedly refused promotion.

After the war, he worked briefly as a carpenter and farm hand before taking up employment with the Brightwater Dairy Company. He then became the weighting plant manager at Lawries Lime Works until his retirement.

He purchased some land in Nelson and would seed it by throwing the seeds from the cockpit of a Tiger Moth.

He never married but lived with Maisie Tarrant for over 30 years. They had no children. AWMM
