    Joined the RNR at the outbreak of the war - spent three years of the war serving in coastal shipping in NZ waters - late 1917 headed to Britain - where he joined SS Lady Cory-Wright in service as a naval auxiliary munition carrier - Killed when ship torpedoed by UC-17 off the English coast - name on Plymouth Naval Memorial & Canterbury Provincial Memorial - age 32 AWMM
