  • I never knew you Grandfather - you died before I was born. I have seen your beautifully put together photo albums from the war but know you never talked about it to either of your sons. I showed the albulms to the Auckland Museum and they took copies. I hope you dont mind. I can't help but think that the care you took in taking and labelling them must have been so someone could see them. I can only imagine the horror you saw. The pictures only tell some of the story - the nicer parts probably. I hear you played for the Kiwi's - you played your clarinet to entertain the troops and Dad said you were an amazing player, He has given me your clarinet for our son to play. I hope he does when he gets older. I hope now you rest in piece and that old memories don't haunt you. I am proud of you and all that you did to help others in the war and after. I am sorry I did not get to meet you RIP
