Enlisted 1-7 January 1916

"Peter Maurice Corrin" was a false name used by Peter Maurice Curreen. He first enlisted under his own name (service number 10790) on 7 January 1916 at Tauherenikau Camp, aged 20 years, but deserted sometime after April 1916 before embarkation. He later re-enlisted (2-7 November 1916) under the false name "Peter Maurice Corrin", also altering the spelling of the surname of his next of kin (cousin) William Curreen to "Corrin".

Most of Peter Curreen's service in action was with D Coy, 1st Battalion, 3rd New Zealand Rifle Brigade.

After re-enlisting, Peter Curreen was disciplined four times during training for:

being AWOL 29 September 1916 at Trentham - received 3 days CB;

being AWOL 21 January 1917 at Featherston - received 4 days CB;

being absent from parade 2 February 1917 - received 4 days CB;

deserting 16 March 1917 - returned after five days and received 20 days detention (apparently held over until he was on the Corinthic bound for Europe) plus lost 40 days pay.

In France, he was disciplined twice for: being found to be in possession of a defaced form at Etaples Camp - received a week's detention and loss of pay;

Disappearing on the field 2 October 1918 before giving himself up to military police three weeks later - received 24 days detention and loss of pay. He was apparently confined to barracks when the Armistice was declared.

Peter Curreen saw action in the trenches at Warneton, south of Messines in 1917, and took part in the Battle of Colincamps on the Somme in April 1918. He then served almost continuously in the advance across the Western Front, except for a period of leave to England (23 August-12 September 1918) and during his detention. After returning to his unit in November 1918, he remained with it during the occupation of the Rhineland until February 1919 when he returned to England.

Enlisted 1916 under real name Peter Maurice Curreen (10790). Enlisted a 2nd time (40520) under the false name Peter Maurice Corrin and changed his nok name to the same spelling. Embarked once AWMM
