  • Son of William Terrington Popple (1841-1926) and Mary Ann Leigh (1848-1927).

    Attended the Annat school, Malvern.

    George succeeded his father as Tawera's clerk in 1920. He was selected from three applicants and was paid 300 pounds a year. He received the Malvern engineer's job in 1925 but continued as Tawera's clerk on a reduced salary of 150 pounds plus 50 pounds travel allowance. He resigned this position 30 April 1939 to become a full time clerk-engineer at Malvern.

    His promotion to Second Lieutenant occurred 10 October 1918. AWMM
