    • Wilding was born at Opawa, Christchurch, on 31 October 1883, the son of Frederick Wilding (1852–1945) a Christchurch lawyer, and of Julia (1852–1934), a daughter of Alderman Charles Anthony, Mayor of Hereford.

      An outstanding tennis player, Wilding won Wimbledon titles: Doubles, 1907–08, 1910–11, 1914; Singles, 1910–13; Mixed Doubles, 1914, represented Australasia in the Davis Cup, won the New Zealand Championship, took these English covered-court titles: Singles; Doubles and Mixed Doubles. In addition, Wilding won the national and international titles: Scotland, 1904; Europe Doubles, 1905; Riviera, 1906, 1910; Victoria, 1909; South Africa, 1910; Brussells Exhibition, 1910; and the Olympic Bronze Medal, Stockholm, 1912.

      Educated New Zealand; Trinity College, Cambridge, B.A. Called to the English Bar, Inner Temple, 1906; qualified Barrister and Solicitor of Supreme Court of New Zealand, 1909.

      Shortly after the outbreak of war in 1914 he became a valued member of the Army Intelligence Corps. He was killed at Ypres on 9 May 1915.

      Pre-war NZ tennis champion - won Wimbledon 1910-1913 singles - November 1914 reported as given granted a temporary commission as Hon. Second Lieutenant Royal Marines & appointed to the HMS Victory, additional, for Royal Naval Division and was to go to France - posted RNAS Armoured Cars and promoted to Captain. Was killed in action at the Battle of Aubers Ridge near Neuve Chapelle - buried at Rue-des-Berceaux Military Cemetary age 31 Was reported as 2nd Lt Royal Marines Press February 1915 AWMM
