  • George Marriott was the youngest son of George Gladstone Marriott and Ella Rosina Grace Marriott, of Mount Eden, Auckland, New Zealand.

"MAJOR IN INDIAN ARMY AUCKLANDER PROMOTED". "Advice has been received by Mr and Mrs G.G. Marriott of 8 Thorley St., Mount Eden, that their youngest son, Captain G.R. Marriott has been promoted to the rank of Major in the Indian Army. Before the war Major Marriott was in the New Zealand British Regiment. He was one of 15 New Zealanders selected for a course at the Indian Staff College, and he received his captaincy in October 1941." (New Zealand Herald 22 January 1944, page 3)

Major Marriott is commemorated on the World War II Roll of Honour at the Auckland Officers' Club. It was, until early 2007, located at Edgerley Road, Newmarket, Auckland, New Zealand. The Roll of Honour is to be relocated to the Northern Club, Princes Street, Auckland, New Zealand. AWMM
