"For exceptional gallantry during the operations conducted on August 26th-30th near Bapaume. During the operations on August 26th-30th Bagley was working as a Battalion runner carrying important despatches forward under difficult circumstances. Many of the runners were wounded at the commencement of operations, thus increasing the strain on those left. Bagley has worked continuously day and night through very heavy artillery and machine-gun fire, always eager for work, and always reaching his objective with his message. Throughout he has shown a wonderful example of courage and determination." Honours and Awards, p. 11. London Gazette 24 January 1919, p1254, Rec No 2418 AWMM
