  • I would like to make contact with Pauline & William regarding the papers they discovered, but sadly the email address they left no longer works. I am connected to Thomas Bakewell through his stepmother, Amy Bakewell, nee Goulstone. (Thomas's mother died when he was an infant, so his stepmother raised him.)

    Report
  • We have moved down to Mt Maunganui from Onehunga Auckland, when clearing out, we found underneath our home in Auckland family documents and family photographs which refer to Pvt T Bakewell reg. no. 6/1772. On the inside cover of his diary the following numbers are listed L.G no 22426 Rifle no 4045 and revolver no 138374. In this diary there is hand written diagrams of battlefield layouts from the first World War. Mr Bakewell also had a scrap book with poems and newspaper cuttings from over seas and from news papers in New Zealand. There is four family photo's and sadly we cannot read the names on the back of the photos. A Mr Hugh Bakewell wrote a letter to The Right Honorable Neville Chamberlain, dated 12th April 1939, on looking at your web site and discovering that Pvt T Bakewell died overseas We are now not sure whether this was another family member, his address at the time of writ
