  • 'Of Langdon Beck Hotel, he was brother to Jonathan Coulthard Baker. William left for New Zealand on Wednesday the 31st January 1912, and during the war he was enlisted into the New Zealand Expeditionary Force, where he served as a sapper and saw action in France. He visited his family back home at Langdon Beck during June of 1916, and left on the 19th July for Foreign Service. After the war he returned home to run the Langdon Beck Hotel until he died and was buried on the 14th February 1930.' Source: Desmond G.
