    • Frank Barltrop was the son of Alfred Henry and Elizabeth Caroline Annie Barltrop, of 36A, Waimea Rd., Nelson. Also served in Egypt and Gallipoli.

      His brother, Henry Barltrop (6/6063), was also killed in World War 1. AWMM
    • Brother of Private Henry (Harry) Barltrop : NZEF Service # 6/2063 of the Canterbury Infantry Regiment, 12th (Nelson) Company, 5th Reinforcements, NZEF - who was killed in action on 27 September 1916 - at the Somme (aged 29 years) - 10 days after his younger Private Frank Barltrop was killed in action - on 17 September 1916 - also at the Somme, France (aged 22 years)

      Henry & Frank had enlisted together, on the same day - on 15 February 1915 - at Trentham Military Training Camp, Wellington. Henry & Frank would have consecutive regimental service numbers : Henry (6/2063) & Frank (6/2062).

      Prior to enlistment for war service Henry Barltrop was a Bushman - at Canvastown, Havelock and his younger brother Frank was a Jeweller - at Nelson.

      Henry & Frank served at Gallipoli together. During their service at Gallipoli both brothers were medically evacuated (sick) to hospital - Henry to England and Frank to Cairo, Egypt. After service at Gallipoli the brothers Barltrop - Henry & Frank - embarked from Port Said, Egypt, together on 6 April 1916 - aboard Transport Ship 'Franconia' for war service - at France & Belgium.

      Both brothers served at the Somme Sector, Armentieres, France. They were both killed in action - within 10 days of each other - in September 1916 - at the Somme, Armentieres, France.

      Private Frank Barltrop has no known grave at France - but he is commemorated on the Caterpillar Valley (New Zealand) Memorial, Caterpillar Valley Cemetery, Longueval, Somme, France.
